Vitamin C

Vitamin C is required daily and is necessary for a number of functions in the body. It is required for the formation of collagen, which helps to maintain skin, teeth, gums, tendons and ligaments. Vitamin C aids to heal wounds quicker, strengthen the immune system and fight cancerous cells. It is required to form neurotransmitters such as dopamine in the brain and helps to reduce any damage to the body from toxic substances and chemicals.Symptoms of deficiency: Prone to infections, slower healing of wounds, dental and gum problems, fatigue, loss of appetite, dry skin, painful joints, anemia and a slower metabolism. Our Vitamin C complex contains a composition of a 1:1 ratio of Ascorbic Acid to Citrus Bio-Flavonoids. Hesperidan, Rose Hips and Rutin are added to this blend, creating a superior anti-oxidant formula. It is especially important to take Vitamin C daily, as it is used at a rapid rate and is not stored by the body. Bioflavonoids act as hormone blockers any place in the body where there are excess hormone production which may cause cancer(s) such as breast cancer.

What is the immune system?

An immune system is a system of biological structures and processes within an organism that protects against disease. In order to function properly, an immune system must detect a wide variety of agents, from to parasitic worms, and distinguish them from the organism's own healthy tissue.

How does my immune system work in humans?

In simple terms, physical barriers prevent pathogens such as bacteria and viruses from entering the organism. If a pathogen breaches these barriers, the innate immune system provides an immediate, but non-specific response. If pathogens successfully evade the innate response, a second layer of protection, the adaptive immune system. The immune system adapts its response during an infection to improve its recognition of the pathogen. This improved response is then retained after the pathogen has been eliminated, in the form of an immunological memory, and allows the adaptive immune system to mount faster and stronger attacks each time this pathogen is encountered.

In summary, the immune system creates multiple barriers to protect the body and destroy viruses and bacteria which can cause health concerns such as the common cold, infections, allergies, auto-immune disorders, and more.

How do I know if my immune system is suppressed?

People who have suppressed immune systems tend to get sick for longer periods of times and more often throughout the year. Some people who have suppressed immune systems feel as if they are "never healthy" and have ongoing symptoms.

There are diseases that suppress the immune system. Universal Formulas recommends consulting a physician before beginning any type of herbal supplement regimen. If you have been suffering from a suppressed immune system, it may be a lack of nutrients and just need a boost, but it could be a sign of a serious medical issue. Please see a health care professional if you have been suffering with a suppressed immune system for an extended period of time (longer than the average sickness).

Are there any foods that can help boost my immune system?

Research has been done regarding the effect of food on the human immune system. Food items, or ‘non’-food items as we call them, such as baked goods, high fructose corn sugar, empty carbohydrates, and sweets can all suppress the immune system. Foods that are fresh are the best. Lots of fruits and vegetables will help boost the immune system. Newer research is showing a benefit from essential fatty acids on the immune system.

Herbs are also believed to help the immune system. Echinacea, Astragulus, Cat's Claw and Schizandra promote healthy immunity and these herbs are found in our Innergy formulation.
